Dee is a highly versatile
singer. She was initially trained classically in her home country
of Wales and later with Peter Giles (Canterbury)and
Jane Ashley (Chelmsford) and Ian Shaw. Dee widened her vocals to
include contemporary music, musical theatre and jazz as well as
performing
her own compositions
or lyrics. She's attended workshops run by international jazz singers
Ian Shaw, Claire Martin, Pete Churchill, Estelle Kokott, and Barb
Jungr's Contemporary Cabaret workshop organised by Equity. Dee's
repertoire
includes Show songs and Showstoppers Standards, Jazz, & Blues,
Easy Listening, Classical and Sacred and Classical songs (mezzo soprano
range sung in Italian, French, German, Latin, Welsh and English)
Own Compositions
Dee's sets can be all one style or selection and can be tailored
to suit the venue/personal requirements. Sometimes Dee includes readings
of her
own poetry and prose writing with her songs.

Club Ware, Working Men's Social Clubs including Avonmouth, Cippenham

Park, Lyndhurst Hall, N. London, plus many others throughout the UK,
theatres including Cramphorn Theatre Chelmsford, Brentwood Theatre,
concerts, private, corporate & social functions, hotels, restaurants,
churches, other holiday and leisure resorts, garden parties, private
weddings and functions, charity events, Masonic lodges etc.
During this time Dee supported many international acts and 'names'
including Ken Dodd OBE, Bobby Davro, Little and Large, David Copperfield,
Paul Melba, Dave Evans, Mike Reid, Kev Duncan, The Rocking Berries,
The
Illegal Eagles. Mike Reid, Adam Knight Hypnotist, Ian Richards, Barry
Peters, Mike McCabe, Dennis Walker, Tim Pope, Graham Hunter, El Loco,
Ian Irvine, Robert Young and many others.
Dee also worked for many years as a band singer- lead female vocals
The John Welham Sound, and Phoenix Function Band. Duo work includes
with clarinet/saxophonist/pianist Jeffery Wilson, all girl duo Twice
as Good, with guitarist/singer Graham Good, pianist Steve Rhodes and
guitarist Roger Montgomery.
Recording work includes "Rollin’ Down The Road" (Mick
Strode), "I
Owe It All To You" by Tim Freebairn - a Eurovision last 40 entry,
co-ordinating a Kidpop CD for producer Paul Rayner-Brown.
Commere
Dee is rarely short of a few words and also compers showcases, cabaret
evenings and charity shows with style and natural rapport with the
audience and performers alike.
Actress
Dee gained an honours degree in Drama & English at University.
Studies included performance skills and acting techniques (e.g. Stanislavski,
Brecht, Shakespeare, comedy, tragedy, character building etc), improvisation,
voice production, direction, light and sound production and theatre
history. She has attended Equity organised Acting on Camera and Improvisation
Workshops led by John Melainey and Vivienne Cozens.
Roles include plays and musicals, including Eliza Doolittle My Fair
Lady, Bianca/Lois Kiss Me Kate, Thea Elvsted Hedda Gabler, Alison
Look Back In Anger, Madame Desmortes Ring Round The Moon, Ellie's
mum, Stargazing.
Small films include Chinese Healthy Option/British Heart Foundation
and Leaving.
Dees also written for an acted in sketches for various cabaret shows.
Writer
Dee Mardi has a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Drama and English.
After leaving university she was trained by The Guardian Newspaper
to write advertising copy and continued that with The Essex Chronicle
Series for some years, during which she also wrote presentations,
training courses. She has written commercially for small companies,
had a column in The Edge Magazine, and for her own interests. Dee
is a poet and currently an active member of I Scream Sundays. Has
written with and performed with Essex Girls Poetry Collective, poems
published in Poetry Sundays anthologies. Her poems have won or been
placed and commended in poetry competitions including Chelmsford
Weekly News and Ottakars Bookshop. She writes upon request and for
corporate functions. Dee has a number of other literary works in
progress which she hopes will be published including stories for
children as well as adults, and sketches with impressionist Drew
Cameron. Dee writes for performance and some of her work can be heard
in her one woman show The Laundry Of Life Pegged On The Line. |
